# FAQ de BOKASHI
De onde veio a palavra bokashi?
Do Japão. A palavra é japonesa (ぼかし, "sombreamento/graduação" — referindo-se ao processo gradual de fermentação).
De onde veio a prática do bokashi?
A técnica foi sistematizada pelo Dr. Teruo Higa na Universidade das Ryukyus, em Okinawa, nos anos 1980, reunida com seu trabalho de inoculante de microrganismos eficazes (EM).\

O bokashi foi amplamente adotado na América Latina nos anos 90 e 2000. A EMBRAPA, o INTA Costa Rica e a agricultura de pequenos produtores colombianos כולם o adotaram e o adaptaram a insumos locais: melaço de cana, casca de arroz, esterco de galinha, biochar, microrganismos de florestas nativas em vez de EM importado.
Até agora, a *versão latino-americana* é uma prática regional genuinamente distinta — receitas diferentes, substratos diferentes, muitas vezes anaeróbica seguida de aeróbica em vez de estritamente anaeróbica.
